Preferred when fire, sound, or moisture are a concern.

01

Non-combustible — rated to 2000°F+

Unlike fiberglass, mineral wool does not melt or burn. It's non-combustible and can withstand temperatures above 2,000°F — making it the default choice for fire-rated wall and floor assemblies, apartment corridors, and commercial buildings with strict fire code requirements.

02

Superior sound control

Mineral wool's dense, rigid structure absorbs more mid-frequency sound than fiberglass. It's widely used in apartment buildings, hotels, recording studios, and any multi-tenant project where party wall STC ratings are specified.

03

Water-resistant — won't retain moisture

Mineral wool fibers are hydrophobic — they repel water rather than absorbing it. In crawl spaces, below-grade walls, and high-humidity environments, mineral wool maintains its R-value even when exposed to moisture that would degrade fiberglass.

Where contractors specify mineral wool.

Apartment & condo construction

Party walls and floor/ceiling assemblies where building codes require minimum STC and fire ratings.

Commercial & light industrial

Fire-rated wall assemblies, mechanical rooms, and sprinklered buildings where non-combustibility is required.

Basement & below-grade walls

Where moisture intrusion is possible and you can't risk R-value loss from wet fiberglass.

Bathrooms & laundry rooms

High-humidity rooms where fiberglass can degrade. Mineral wool's hydrophobic structure holds up over decades.

Green building & LEED projects

High recycled content (up to 70%) helps with LEED credits. Also contributes to indoor air quality certification as a low-VOC material.

Media & recording rooms

Interior partition walls where maximum STC is the goal. Mineral wool outperforms fiberglass at sound absorption across mid-frequencies.

Order mineral wool in three steps.

Common questions about mineral wool.

What's the difference between mineral wool and fiberglass?

Both insulate effectively, but mineral wool is non-combustible, denser, more moisture-resistant, and better at sound absorption. Fiberglass is lighter and typically less per bag. The right choice depends on your application. See full comparison →

Is mineral wool itchy to install?

Less so than traditional fiberglass. Modern mineral wool batts have a slightly rougher feel, but most installers find them easier to handle than older fiberglass products. Long sleeves and gloves are still recommended, as with any insulation.

What R-values do you stock in mineral wool?

We stock R-15 (2×4 walls), R-21 (2×6 walls), and R-23 (floor cavities). Other R-values may be available on order — call to confirm availability in your area.

Is there a minimum order?

No minimum. Volume earns better pricing — ask when you call.
