R-19 is the most commonly specified insulation for floor cavities over unconditioned crawl spaces and basements. It fits the 2×10 and 2×8 framing typical in floor assemblies.
In IECC climate zones 1–3, R-19 satisfies above-grade wall requirements. For zone 4+, contractors often upgrade to R-21 — but R-19 remains valid in many jurisdictions with other trade-offs.
