How much does insulation cost?

There's no single answer — but there are clear factors that drive the number. Here's what actually matters, and how to get the best quote for your project.

Insulation cost depends on four things.

Insulation is sold by the bag or by the batt. The total cost of your order is driven by: the R-value you need, the square footage you're covering, the product type (fiberglass or mineral wool), and where you buy it — wholesale or retail. Everything else is a variable. The only way to get an accurate number is to give us those four things and let us quote it.

01

R-Value

Higher R-values require more material per square foot. R-13 batts for a 2×4 wall use less material than R-49 deep-fill attic batts. The R-value required depends on your climate zone — zones 1–3 require less insulation than zones 5–8.

02

Coverage area

Total square footage of the assembly you're insulating drives quantity. Walls, attic floors, floor joists, and cathedral ceilings each have different bag yields. Our calculator gives you a bag estimate from square footage in seconds.

03

Product type

Standard fiberglass batts are the most cost-effective product for most residential and commercial applications. Mineral wool costs more per bag but is required for fire-rated assemblies and delivers superior sound attenuation. The right product depends on the assembly.

04

Wholesale vs retail

Where you buy matters as much as what you buy. Retail stores carry insulation at consumer markup. Wholesale distributors sell at trade pricing. For any order above a few bags, buying wholesale from a distributor is consistently less expensive than a big-box store. See the full comparison →

What affects cost by project type.

Exterior walls (2×4 framing)

Standard specification is R-13 for zones 1–3 and R-15 HD for zones 4+. Coverage per bag runs approximately 40–75 sq ft depending on product and manufacturer. Most residential exterior wall orders fall in the 20–150 bag range. R-13 · R-15

Exterior walls (2×6 framing)

R-19 or R-21 HD. R-21 HD is the better performer in the same cavity — denser, slightly thicker resistance. Coverage per bag runs approximately 40–55 sq ft. R-19 · R-21

Attic floors

R-30 through R-49 depending on climate zone. Attic insulation projects often involve the largest square footage on a job — a 1,500 sq ft house needs 1,500+ sq ft of attic coverage. Coverage per bag is lower for deep-fill products. Attic insulation guide →

Multifamily and commercial

Larger volume orders earn better per-unit pricing. Mineral wool is typically required for party walls and corridors. Commercial projects often run 50–500+ bags per phase. Commercial insulation →

Sound and fire-rated assemblies

Mineral wool AFB and SAFB for UL-listed assemblies. Higher material cost than standard fiberglass — but non-negotiable when the assembly requires it. Mineral wool →

Common cost questions.

Why don't you list prices on your website?

Insulation pricing varies based on product, R-value, quantity, manufacturer availability, and delivery location. A price posted today may not reflect what we can actually deliver next week. We quote every order individually so you get an accurate, committed number — not a range that may be wrong by the time you order.

Do larger orders cost less per bag?

Generally yes. Volume purchasing allows us to negotiate better per-unit pricing from distributors. If you're ordering for multiple jobs or a large project, mention it when you call — it affects the quote.

Is delivery included?

Delivery terms vary by order and location. We'll quote your total delivered cost — what you pay on delivery is the full number, no surprise add-ons.

What's the fastest way to get a quote?

Call or text (929) 466-1426 with: R-value, batt width (15" or 23"), quantity or square footage, zip code, and when you need delivery. We respond within the hour on business days.

Do I need to pay upfront?

No. We deliver first, you inspect, then pay via Zelle, Venmo, or check. No deposit, no upfront payment required. How pay at delivery works →
