Buying Insulation in Bulk: What Contractors Need to Know

How to order wholesale, what information to have ready, and how to get the best price on large insulation orders.

Most contractors learn early that buying insulation through a retail distributor means paying retail prices. Buying wholesale — direct from a supplier — changes the math significantly, especially on orders of 10 bags or more.

Why Bulk Pricing Matters

On a 100-bag order, the difference between retail and wholesale pricing can easily be $400–$1,200 depending on product and market. Over the course of a year, that delta compounds quickly for contractors running multiple jobs.

Wholesale suppliers like Prestige Insulation pass on direct pricing because we source in volume and operate without retail overhead. You get the same material — from the same manufacturers — at a lower price per bag.

What to Know Before You Order

Lead time

Most wholesale orders ship on a 24–48 hour lead time on stocked products. If your job starts in 3 days, request a quote today. We'll confirm availability and a delivery window the same business day.

Minimum quantities

There's no hard minimum, but wholesale pricing is most competitive at 10+ bags. Smaller quantities are better served through local retail. If you have a 5-bag order alongside a 50-bag order on your next job, quote the combined total — the pricing on the whole lot will be better.

Ordering ahead vs. just-in-time

Bulk pricing sometimes rewards ordering ahead — particularly for common products like R-13 and R-19 fiberglass in standard widths. If you have consistent demand across multiple jobs, ordering 2–3 weeks out can lock in better pricing and ensure availability.

What information you need for a quote

  • Product type (fiberglass batts or mineral wool)
  • R-value (R-13, R-15, R-19, R-21, R-30, R-38, R-49)
  • Facing (kraft-faced or unfaced)
  • Width (15" for 16" OC framing, 23" for 24" OC framing)
  • Quantity in bags
  • Delivery address and preferred delivery date

Payment and terms

We accept Zelle, Venmo, and check — due at delivery. All sales are final once an order is confirmed. If you need to modify an order, contact us before dispatch.

How to Get the Best Price

Be specific. Contractors who provide complete specs upfront — exact R-value, facing, width, quantity, delivery date — get the most accurate and competitive quotes. Vague requests ("some R-19 batts, maybe 40 bags") require follow-up and slow everything down.

Combine orders across jobs when possible. Ordering 80 bags across two jobs in the same week almost always prices better than two separate 40-bag orders.
